The Future Of American Tennis?

This is a story about 18 year old Donald Young who turned pro at the age of 14. This piece is a cautionary tale about just how hard tennis is at a certain level. I saw Young play last Spring here in the St. Vincent's Tournament. In fact, he won it after somehow beating Harrel Levy, who once made it to the semis of the French before having to leave the ATP tour to fulfill his Israeli military commitment if memory serves, to get to the final. He and a partner won the doubles the day before in an incredibly chippy match with a couple of whiners from Illinois.

It was a big payday for him. I bet he won all of 7 grand.

Anyway, I visited with his Mother briefly. She seemed like a nice lady for a tennis mom.
