I lost my best friend too. Twenty-four years. It's ok to step away while in mourning. I found your blog by accident when I was looking up the "Moving Finger" quatrain for my journal. I like what you write - you are an excellent writer - although I find your endless references to "women" and "girls in shorts" somewhat tiresome. I am new to blogging. I'll consider it an adventure as I slog through single parenthood. There are some things in life we cannot step away from. But if there are some you can...then do it. Good for you. Keep writing. Your wit, humor and compassion help to take the edge off the day.
